Story is set in the Anti-Japanese War period. It tells the story of Xia Ji Cheng, a proud son from a wealthy high-ranking political family, who originally wanted to go to the Navy to fulfil his dream of becoming a captain. However, an unexpected trip to Shanghai changes his life completely and he becomes a low-ranked police officer.

During the first Songhu Anti-Japanese War, Zhou Wen, a man from a wealthy family in Suzhou, visited soldiers at the battlefront. Having witnessed the cruelty of war and enthusiasm of the Chinese soldiers, he decided to give up his civilian pursuits and join the army. In view of his outstanding performance, he was sent to a military school in Germany to specialise in special combat techniques. During his training stint in Germany, he was acquainted to a Japanese soldier Takeshita and both became close friends at the school. When the Sino-Japanese War broke out in 1937, Zhou and Takeshita were recalled by their respective countries. The good friends could not escape the fate of eventually having to meet at the battlefield.

During the early years of the Republic of China, Gu Hansen, a very influential person in Shanghai, adopts two boys Liao Sicheng and Fang Tianyi. Both boys grow up together with his daughter Gu Ting and all three are as close as real siblings. Gu Hansen plans to make arrangements for his daughter to marry Liao Sicheng who has returned from Japan. However, Liao Sicheng declines the offer, citing the national crisis as the reason. He joins the KMT, with Gu Ting and Fang Tianyi following suit. A few years later, Liao Sicheng receives an order to lead a team to intercept a batch of royal treasures of Qing Dynasty. Gu Ting and Fang Tianyi are also involved. However, they are not aware that they are already embroiled in a conspiracy. What is unexpected is that Gu Ting is also actually a Communist agent who has infiltrated the KMT army. The two Communist agents survive behind the enemy lines, but awaiting them is an unimaginably difficult challenge.
